This Privacy Policy explains how information about you may be collected, used and disclosed by the Staunton Democratic Committee (“SDC”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). This Privacy Policy applies to information we collect when you use our websites, mobile sites, mobile applications, and other online services that link to this Privacy Policy or when you otherwise interact with us.

We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will notify you by revising the date at the top of the policy and, in some cases, we may provide you with additional notice (such as adding a statement to our website or sending you an email notification if possible). We encourage you to review the Privacy Policy whenever you access the website to stay informed about our information practices.



We collect information you provide directly to us digitally or physically. For example, we collect information when you fill out a form, make a donation, send us an email, sign up for an event, sign up to receive email or other updates, sign a petition, sign up as a volunteer, create an account, schedule an event, sign up to attend an event, participate in a contest or promotion, make a purchase or contribution, communicate with us via third party social media sites, request information, or otherwise communicate with us or through our platform or in person. The types of information we may collect include your name, contact information (including email address, social media handles, user names, postal address, phone number, mobile number, credit card information and other payment information, other information you choose to provide.

In addition, the Federal Election Commission (“FEC”) and other election reporting entities may require us to collect and share certain personal information from donors. For example, the FEC may require us to collect (and disclose) the name, mailing address, occupation, employment status, and name of employer of all individuals whose donations exceed $200 per election cycle.


  • Log Information: We may log information about your use of our website, including the type of browser you use, access times, pages viewed, your IP address and the page you visited before navigating to our website.

  • Device Information:  We may collect information about the computer or mobile device you use to access our Sites, including the hardware model, operating system and version, device identifiers and mobile network information.

  • Transactional Information: If you make a donation or purchase, we may collect information about the transaction, such as donation amount, purchase price, product details, and date and location of the transaction.

  • Location Information:  We may derive the approximate location of your device, such as from your IP address. 

  • Information Collected by Cookies and Similar Tracking Technologies:  We (and our service providers) use different technologies to collect information, including cookies and web beacons.  Cookies are small data files stored on your hard drive or in device memory that help us improve our Sites and your experience, see which areas and features of our Sites are popular and count visits.For more information about cookies, and how to disable them, please see “Your Choices” below.



We may also obtain information from other sources and combine that with information we collect about you on our Site.  For example, we may collect voter file data from democratic organizations, from public databases, and from private organizations. We may also use such information for list matching purposes. In addition, if you make a donation to ActBlue for our benefit, we will obtain certain information about you from ActBlue.


We may use information about you for various purposes, including to:

  • Provide, maintain and improve our website;

  • Send you technical notices, updates, security alerts, and support and administrative messages;

  • Provide and deliver the information you request, process contributions and transactions and send you related information, including confirmations and receipts, and provide technical support;

  • Respond to your emails, submissions, comments, questions and requests; request feedback or support, and otherwise contact you about your participation with SDC and the use of the Sites;

  • Communicate with you about SDC, such as sending you information to keep you informed about various issues, events, activities, and volunteer opportunities, and provide news and information we think will be of interest to you (see “Your Choices” below for information about how to opt out of these communications at any time);

  • To solicit volunteers, donations and support for SDC and for candidates, issues and organizations that we support and to connect you with other volunteers;

  • Contact you if Federal election laws require us to request additional information from you;

  • Remind you to vote and register to vote and assist you in finding your registration information, polling location and events near you;

  • Monitor and analyze trends, usage and activities in connection with our website;

  • Personalize and improve the website and provide advertisements, content or features that match user profiles or interests;

  • Process and deliver contest entries and rewards;

  • Link or combine with information we get from others to help understand your needs and interests and provide you with better service while matching you with opportunities; and

  • Carry out any other purpose for which the information was collected.


The Staunton Democratic Committee is based in Virginia in the United States and the information we collect is governed by U.S. law. By accessing or using the website or otherwise providing information to us, you consent to the processing and transfer of information in and to the U.S. and other countries.


We may share information about you as follows or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy:

  • With vendors, consultants and other service providers or volunteers who need access to such information to carry out work on our behalf;

  • In response to a request for information if we believe disclosure is in accordance with, or required by, any applicable law, regulation or legal process, including lawful requests by public authorities to meet national security or law enforcement requirements; When we believe in good faith that we are lawfully authorized or required to do so or that doing so is reasonably necessary or appropriate to comply with the law or legal processes or respond to lawful requests, claims or legal authorities, including responding to lawful subpoenas, warrants, or court orders;

  • If we believe your actions are inconsistent with the spirit or language of our user agreements or policies, or to protect the rights, property and safety of Staunton Democratic Committee, its employees, volunteers, or others;

  • In connection with, or during negotiations of, any reorganization, formation of new committee or successor organization, asset sale or transfer, financing or lending transaction or in any other situation where personal information may be disclosed or transferred as one of the assets of Staunton Democratic Committee; and

  • With your consent or at your direction.

  • We may also share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used by those third parties to identify you.




Any phone numbers that you provide to us via a form on our website, an SDC physical form, or another SDC digital form are not shared with third parties or affiliates (except with our parent organization - Democratic Party of Virginia) unless we believe disclosure is required by any applicable law, rule, or regulation or to comply with law enforcement or legal process.  

You may receive text messages (SMS/MMS) from us periodically where your phone number is derived from outside databases and not from information you have provided to us.  We do not control the content of these outside databases and you can always opt out of receiving those SMS/MMS messages by texting STOP at any time in response to those texts. 


Our website may contain links to other websites. For example, we may link to third-party sites to facilitate donations or purchases.  Any personal information you provide on such linked pages is provided directly to that third party and is subject to that third party’s privacy policy, and not this privacy policy.   We encourage you to learn about their privacy and security practices and policies before providing them with personal information.


Our website may offer social sharing features and other integrated tools (such as the Facebook “Like” button), which let you share actions you take on our website with other media, and vice versa. The use of such features enables the sharing of information with your friends or the public, depending on the settings you establish with the entity that provides the social sharing feature. We may allow third parties to use cookies, web beacons, or other technologies or otherwise collect information about you in order to provide analytics and advertising services, including serving ads on the website or on other websites based on your visits to this site and other sites across the Internet.
