SDC 2026-2027 Reorganization

The Staunton Democratic Committee (SDC) has issued a Call to Caucus, for the purpose of reorganizing the committee. What this means in practice is that we will be electing a new SDC Executive Committee Officers -- Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer -- to coordinate the affairs of the SDC for the next two years.

On January 13, 2026 the Reorganization will broken down into two sections:

  • First, the Caucus - this initial section allows the caucus members to approve the caucus rules and vote themselves in as new SDC members.

  • Second, the initial SDC membership meeting - the SDC Members, authorized from the Caucus, will vote to elect the SDC Officers including Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.  The new officers will be sworn in and other important business will be announced and/or voted on.  The elected officers will serve for two years (2026 and 2027 until the January 2028 Reorganization).

Details:

  • Date - January 13, 2026

  • Time - Doors open at 6 PM and the Caucus begins at 6:30 PM.  You will not be able to participate or vote in the Caucus portion if you arrive after 6:30 PM.

How to participate in the caucus

Shape the future of the SDC

Any Democrat may participate in this Caucus who:

  • Is a Democrat and believes in the principles of the Democratic Party

  • Is registered to vote in the City of Staunton

  • Does not intend to oppose any Democratic nominee in the next election

To do so, please fill out the online caucus/membership form below.

It will be possible to fill out the form at the caucus if you are unable to do so in advance; however, filling out the form in advance allows us to run a more efficient meeting, and so we request that you fill it out before the caucus.

Be sure to arrive on time.  The doors open at 6 PM and the Caucus will begin at 6:30 PM.  People arriving after 6:30 PM will be allowed to observe but cannot participate or vote in the Caucus once the proceedings begin.

How to run for an SDC office

Fight for Democratic values

To run for an SDC officer position (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary or Treasurer), fill out the form below; we'll be in touch regarding further details. Running for office is a great way for Democrats who have volunteered in the past to become more involved in progressive politics locally.

If you are unable to fill out the form online then you can fill out a form once you arrive before 6:30 PM on January 13, 206; however, we strongly recommend pre-filing since it helps us run an efficient meeting, and allows you to get your message out to local Democrats in advance of the caucus.

Be sure to arrive on time.  The doors open at 6 PM and the Caucus will begin at 6:30 PM.  People arriving after 6:30 PM will be allowed to observe but cannot participate or vote in the Caucus once the proceedings begin.  Those arriving late may participate and vote in the initial Committee meeting and vote to elect officers (this SDC Membership meeting occurs after the adjournment of the Caucus).
